2013-09-19 Board Meeting Minutes

Gold Hill Fire Protection District Board Minutes
September 19, 2013

Meeting was called dot order at 7:0 pm. Present were Bobby Vrba, Donal Maloney, Rich Lopez (by phone), and citizens Gretchen Diefenderfer & Tony Vrba.

Minutes were approved by a vote of 5-0.

Public Input: Gretchen noted that she didn’t get the minutes nor are they posted on the website. Dave apologized, used the excuse of internet being down, and promised to do better.

Tony introduced herself as a Town Meeting Member-at-Large, and said that she intends to attend Board meetings with the hope of improving communications.

Old Business:
The prior proposed location of the dry hydrant washed away. Russ Leadingham, Left Hand Chief, pointed out a new and better location, but that would entail dealing with a different property owner. Rich will work toward dealing with the relevant property owner.

A Department Debit Card was requested by the Chief at the last meeting, and we will wait for him to proceed with that.

New Business:

Donal asked if anyone thought that the flood had any effect on our budget or spending. Rick asked about the communications issues, suggested satellite internet. The issue will be an ongoing one, and we agree that this will be a priority item going forward. Donal said that we should have emergency phones various places around the district, and that we as a department should work toward improved emergency communications.

Bobby brought up the deficiencies with the Safe Site program, and Donal explained what happened. It involved having to drive to talk to people because of the phones being down.

Dave brought up some ideas involving using radios to communicate, be it HAM, FRS, MERN or others.

Donal somewhat summarized the impact on our town and our district, and what we have done in response. There are many changes in response agencies in place.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:47 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dave Sturtz
Board Sec’y
