2015-01-15 Board Meeting Minutes

Gold Hill Fire Protection District Board Minutes
January 15, 2015

Meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm. Present were Bobby Vrba, Rich Lopez, Paul Garabedian, Dave Sturtz, Rick Geesaman.

Minutes were approved.

Old Business: Rich made note of the planning ideas from the January meeting. He feels we had some good ideas last meeting, and suggested we discuss some of the plans further. At this point this is of the nature of brainstorming.

We discussed a few thoughts regarding dry hydrants – optimal design, optimal location, etc. Rick G. suggested we go for five next year, just as a target. Rick G. will check on the price of the plumbing parts for a dry hydrant.

Another planning item is a 30,000 gal cistern. We don’t currently have a location identified. Dave reported that 30,000 gallons amounts to a cube 16 ft. on a side.

Rick G. mentioned the idea of a pond on the Ranch land, just uphill from Soby’s. There used to be a pond there, and the remnants of a dam are still there. Perhaps we could contribute to lining a pond so it would hold. Rick also wondered if something could be done someplace along Gold Run.

Regarding new trucks (and we noted that they won’t be new new, but new to us), as we understand it Chris continues to look. There was some discussion about the actual need for new trucks, but Dave made several observations about the present trucks, which persuaded the Board of the actual need.

There was brief discussion of a new station. This is a long shot, but if we were to do such a thing there would certainly be a cistern underneath.

Regarding recruitment of new firefighters, we need to continue to think about ways to recruit and train new people.

Regarding improved PR, Rich noted that having a presence at the Gold Hill Town Meeting is important. Rich suggests that we divide up the year and each commit to attend a meeting. Bobby goes to most meetings.

Dave reiterated that he will be gone for the February meeting.

New Business: None

Chief’s Report: None

The meeting was adjourned at 8:07 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dave Sturtz
