2015-06-18 Board Meeting Minutes

Gold Hill Fire Protection District Board Minutes
June 18, 2015

Meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm. Present were members Bobby Vrba, Rich Lopez, Paul Garabedian, Dave Sturtz, Rick Geesaman and citizen Gretchen Diefenderfer.

Minute approval was deferred.

Chief’s Report: 5433 is almost done, and will be the medical truck as well as a brush truck. Chris announced the recruitment of two new firefighters, Woodie and Jared. There have been some good trainings, most recently an extrication training wherein a car was ripped apart. Re the 4th of July, we need more people. We’ve also arranged for two Porta-Potties, because of the water shortage at the school. We have a problem with the bathroom holding tank filling with ground water, which is being addressed. We’ll need to divert the water away from the tank. We are still looking for a new truck, having a hard time finding what we want in 4WD and with enough water. It’s possible we may have to have one built for us.

Old Business: We still need to move the Safe Site shed, 8 ft S and 4 ft W. Regarding the bathroom, Rich drew up a license to permit the Town Meeting to put a porta-potty on the Department property. There is language such that if it becomes a nuisance the town can be made to get rid of it. Dave moved that Rich be empowered to finalize the license and present it to the Town Meeting for its approval. Bobby seconded, motion carried 5-0. Regarding dry hydrants, the most likely site, at the bottom of Lick Skillet, will be rebuilt in the next year or so, so we will be working with County to assist with one there. We have four other possible sites. The County does not intend to relocate either the road or the creek. There was some discussion of possible sites, and Rich thinks some of the Board should visit some of these sites to evaluate them. Regarding a new cistern, Rich presented a possible site on Max Yeager’s property down Gold Run Road above the junction with Dixon. It was suggested that we put out the word to the town that we are looking for sites, in case anyone wants to volunteer. Rich suggests having a table at the 4th of July to get people to sign up to have address numbers to put up. Rich believes that the County will supply the numbers.

New Business: There was brief discussion of a succession plan, when officers move on in one way or another.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:02 pm

Respectfully Submitted,
