2016-09-15 Board Meeting Minutes

Gold Hill Fire Protection District
Board of Directors Meeting: Minutes
September 15, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM. Present were board members Paul Garabedian, Bobby Vrba, Rick Geesaman, and chaired by Rich Lopez. Boyd Brown was absent, and excused. Gretchen Diefenderfer also attended the meeting. Minutes of the past meeting were approved.

Chief Finn presented the chief’s report for the month. There has been a Stage 2 fire ban put in place meaning there are no fires allowed even in approved campgrounds. This fire ban has been rescinded, though we all should still be vigilant before the snows fly.

There were a few calls during the month, including five non calls.

Now for the good news. Chief Finn has located and inspected a fire truck that meets all the specifications, such as size, 4 wheel drive, and the volume of the water tank. The truck is owned by Left Hand Fire District, and the asking price is $90,000. The board reviewed all the data available on the truck, and there was a motion to purchase the truck. The motion was passed unanimously.

Rich Lopez spearheaded the approval by Boulder County for dry hydrants to be installed in Left Hand Canyon. Through much politicking, Rich pushed through the approval. Three dry hydrants have been staged in Left Hand Canyon, and should all be installed soon with the help of Boulder County.

There was some discussion about cisterns. The board suggests we look at “frack tanks” as a possible lower cost solution to water storage. Rick will follow up. There is some talk with the Walker family about renovating their non-functioning swimming pool to serve also as a water source for the department. Progress is slow, but will continue.
The meeting adjourned in a celebratory mode at 7:40 PM. The next meeting will be held on August 18th.

Respectfully submitted,

Rick Geesaman
